Skilling Up: EME Establishes Robotics and Drone Training for a Modern Military
The landscape of technical education in India continues its march toward embracing cutting-edge technology, and the armed forces are leading the charge. The Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME) recently made a significant stride in its training philosophy, launching two advanced training facilities dedicated to robotics and drone operations at the Military College of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering (MCEME) in Secunderabad.
The announcement, coinciding with the Corps’ 83rd anniversary celebrations, marks a strategic pivot toward becoming a technology-driven force. This move signals the critical importance of mastering unmanned systems and modern warfare applications in the coming decades.
Centres for Technological Mastery
To facilitate this specialized curriculum, two new centres have been established: Dronalaya (for drone operations) and Yantralaya (for robotics). These state-of-the-art units are designed to equip EME technicians with the advanced skills required to operate, maintain, and adapt these sophisticated systems. The training is directly focused on strengthening the Army’s preparedness for future conflicts.
The integration of these subjects into the core technical training curriculum underscores a progressive educational vision—one that prioritizes innovation and technological adaptation.
The New Educational Mandate
Addressing the importance of the new facilities, Lt Gen Neeraj Varshney, Commandant of MCEME and Colonel Commandant of the Corps, articulated a powerful shift in the EME’s mandate. He stressed that the role of EME personnel now extends far “beyond repair and maintenance.”
“Our role goes beyond repair and maintenance, it’s about ensuring mission readiness through technological mastery,” he said.
This statement encapsulates the philosophy driving the new units: training must evolve from fixing equipment to actively sustaining the Army’s technological superiority. It highlights that the most effective way to combine long-standing military tradition with modern warfare requirements is through dedicated, advanced technical education.
The launch of Dronalaya and Yantralaya represents not just an upgrade to facilities, but a complete refocusing on the future demands of a technically complex battlefield, ensuring that the EME Corps remains at the forefront of innovation in military engineering education.

RTC Strike Intensifies in Telangana: College Students & Public Hit Hard
RTC strike disrupts college students and commuters across Telangana, increasing travel costs, absenteeism, and daily hardships amid reduced bus services.
The ongoing RTC strike across Telangana is continuing to disrupt daily life, with its impact now being felt more sharply by college students and the general public. While schools are currently closed due to summer holidays, colleges remain functional—creating a major challenge for thousands of students dependent on public transport.
Protests at depots like Jeedimetla Bus Depot have led to reduced bus services, leaving commuters stranded or forced to seek costly alternatives. College students, especially those traveling from outskirts and rural areas, are struggling to attend classes regularly. Many are either missing lectures or spending significantly more on autos and private transport.
The situation is equally difficult for office-goers and daily wage workers, who rely heavily on RTC buses for affordable commuting. With fares of autos and cabs rising due to demand, the financial burden on common people has increased considerably.
Parents and students are expressing frustration, as there is no uniform relief—schools are shut for holidays, but higher education continues without transport support. This imbalance is adding to stress, attendance issues, and academic disruption.
Amid the unrest, K. P. Vivekanand has backed the RTC workers, criticizing the government’s response and urging immediate resolution of their demands.
Until a solution is reached, it is the everyday commuter—particularly college students—who remain the worst affected in this ongoing deadlock.
