The IPL Auction 2025 lived up to its hype, delivering another thrilling day for cricket fans around the world. Held in Mumbai, the auction showcased fierce bidding wars, surprise buys, and record-breaking deals, as franchises revamped their squads for the upcoming season.

Record-Breaking Buys

The highlight of the auction was the historic signing of Australian all-rounder Cameron Green, who went under the hammer for a whopping ₹20.5 crore, making him one of the most expensive players in IPL history. Several young Indian talents, including Riyan Parag and Rajvardhan Hangargekar, also fetched big sums as teams focused on building a youthful core.

International Stars Shine

Global cricketing icons like Travis Head, Pat Cummins, and Harry Brook attracted massive attention. South African sensation Gerald Coetzee found multiple suitors, eventually signing a big deal. Franchises showed a clear inclination towards power-hitters and death bowlers, aiming to strengthen their squads in critical departments.

Franchises and Their Strategies

  • Mumbai Indians made aggressive moves, shoring up their bowling unit after missing out on key players last season.

  • Chennai Super Kings stuck to their trusted formula — blending experience with youth, focusing heavily on spin options.

  • Royal Challengers Bangalore invested big in all-rounders, hoping to finally lift their maiden IPL trophy.

  • Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans, two of the newest teams, continued to make smart buys, focusing on depth rather than star power.

Rising Indian Talent

The auction once again proved to be a launching pad for uncapped Indian players. Names like Sameer Rizvi and Shubham Dubey triggered intense bidding wars, indicating that IPL franchises are keen on nurturing homegrown stars for the future.

From All Saints High School to the Telangana Cabinet: The Remarkable Journey of Mohammad Azharuddin

Hyderabad: The story of Mohammad Azharuddin is one of perseverance, transformation, and leadership — a journey that began in the corridors of All Saints High School, Hyderabad, and has now reached the Telangana State Cabinet. From being a young boy who dreamt of cricket glory to leading the Indian cricket team and now serving as a Minister in the Revanth Reddy-led government, Azharuddin’s life stands as a testament to discipline, grace, and resilience.

Born and raised in Hyderabad, Azharuddin’s formative years at All Saints High School shaped his character and passion for the game. It was here that his elegant batting style first caught the attention of coaches and peers. The school’s nurturing environment and encouragement for sports excellence laid the foundation for a career that would later inspire millions across the nation.

After completing his education, Azharuddin’s cricketing journey took off when he debuted for India in 1984 with a century against England at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens — the first of three consecutive Test centuries that announced his arrival on the world stage. His wristy elegance and calm demeanor made him one of India’s most beloved captains through the 1990s, leading the team to memorable victories both at home and abroad.

Transitioning from the cricket field to public life, Azharuddin’s focus shifted toward social causes and community development. His deep connection with Hyderabad and its people remained constant, guiding his foray into politics. Joining the Congress Party, he served as a Member of Parliament from Moradabad (Uttar Pradesh) and remained active in Telangana’s political landscape.

On Friday, October 31, 2025, Azharuddin was sworn in as a Minister in the Telangana Cabinet at Raj Bhavan. The ceremony, presided over by Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, was attended by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, senior ministers, and dignitaries. Although his portfolio has not yet been officially announced, sources suggest that he may be entrusted with responsibilities related to Sports, Home Affairs, or Minorities Welfare — areas where his experience and empathy align perfectly.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, congratulating Azharuddin, stated, “His inclusion in the Cabinet adds immense value, especially in our efforts to empower youth through sports and strengthen minority welfare initiatives. Azharuddin’s leadership, both on and off the field, embodies the spirit of Telangana.”

This marks the second expansion of the Telangana Cabinet since the Congress assumed office in December 2023. With Azharuddin’s inclusion, the government aims to leverage his international stature and grassroots connect to promote youth engagement, sports development, and inclusive governance.

For many in Hyderabad, the moment is nostalgic — a proud alumnus of All Saints High School, who once represented the city on cricket fields around the world, now representing it in the corridors of power. His journey reflects not only personal triumph but also Hyderabad’s enduring legacy of producing leaders who inspire beyond boundaries.

As the applause fades from the Raj Bhavan lawns, Mohammad Azharuddin’s new innings begins — not with a bat in hand, but with the responsibility to serve the people of Telangana with the same dedication that once defined his cricketing career.
