Telangana’s New Education Policy: What to Expect

Published

By Education Today News Desk

Telangana is preparing for a major shift in its education landscape. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced that the state will unveil the Telangana Education Policy (TEP) on December 9, 2025, as part of the “Telangana Rising: 2047” vision document. The upcoming policy is expected to introduce sweeping reforms covering the entire spectrum of education — from school to university.

Transforming Education for Future Needs

According to the Chief Minister, the new education policy will focus on eradicating poverty through education. Unlike past welfare-driven measures, the TEP aims to make education a long-term solution for sustainable employment and social mobility.

The CM stressed that Telangana’s education system must evolve to meet current challenges and future opportunities, blending knowledge, language, and practical skills to ensure holistic student development.

Key Highlights of the Proposed Policy

  1. Model for the Nation
    • The TEP will act as a model for the entire country, aiming to set new benchmarks in education reforms.
  2. Addressing Graduate Employability
    • Each year, over 1.10 lakh students graduate in Telangana, but only 15% secure jobs due to lack of training and industry alignment.
    • The new policy promises to bridge this gap by aligning education with industrial and global employment requirements.
  3. Focus on Skills and Innovation
    • Emphasis on instilling confidence among parents and rebuilding trust in public education.
    • Renewed focus on STEM, vocational, and technical education, ensuring students are not only employable but also socially responsible citizens.
  4. Revamping Teacher Recruitment
    • Recruitment and transfers to be restructured.
    • Teachers’ training will be prioritized to improve classroom focus.
  5. Special Emphasis on Universities
    • Revitalization of institutions such as Osmania University and Kakatiya University.
    • Steps to strengthen their academic and intellectual contributions.
  6. Private vs. Public Schooling
    • The CM acknowledged that government schools are losing ground to private institutions, particularly at the preschool and elementary levels.
    • TEP will address this by improving government school standards and restoring credibility.
  7. Infrastructure & Financing
    • Despite significant education spending, 98% of funds are currently spent on salaries, leaving little for innovation.
    • A special education corporation will be proposed to fund infrastructure and quality improvements.

Expert Consultations

The policy framework is being shaped with inputs from educators, professors, intellectuals, and policymakers. During discussions, experts emphasized inclusiveness, equality, and the need for technology in education—not as a substitute for teachers, but as a support tool.

Long-Term Vision

The Chief Minister said the TEP would guide Telangana’s development for the next 25 years, positioning the state as a beacon for national education reforms.

What This Means for Students, Parents & Educators

  • Students can expect more skill-based, employability-driven programs and better university standards.
  • Parents may see renewed confidence in public schools, reducing dependency on costly private education.
  • Educators will face revamped training systems and improved recruitment processes, with higher accountability.

With the TEP, Telangana hopes to strike a balance between academic excellence, employability, and social responsibility, making education the true driver of growth and equality.

RTC Strike Intensifies in Telangana: College Students & Public Hit Hard

RTC strike disrupts college students and commuters across Telangana, increasing travel costs, absenteeism, and daily hardships amid reduced bus services.

The ongoing RTC strike across Telangana is continuing to disrupt daily life, with its impact now being felt more sharply by college students and the general public. While schools are currently closed due to summer holidays, colleges remain functional—creating a major challenge for thousands of students dependent on public transport.

Protests at depots like Jeedimetla Bus Depot have led to reduced bus services, leaving commuters stranded or forced to seek costly alternatives. College students, especially those traveling from outskirts and rural areas, are struggling to attend classes regularly. Many are either missing lectures or spending significantly more on autos and private transport.

The situation is equally difficult for office-goers and daily wage workers, who rely heavily on RTC buses for affordable commuting. With fares of autos and cabs rising due to demand, the financial burden on common people has increased considerably.

Parents and students are expressing frustration, as there is no uniform relief—schools are shut for holidays, but higher education continues without transport support. This imbalance is adding to stress, attendance issues, and academic disruption.

Amid the unrest, K. P. Vivekanand has backed the RTC workers, criticizing the government’s response and urging immediate resolution of their demands.

Until a solution is reached, it is the everyday commuter—particularly college students—who remain the worst affected in this ongoing deadlock.
